Meet Raquel Regalado

A Voice For
Our Community.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Raquel Regalado is our voice on issues that matter to our district and our residents.

Raquel Regalado is the first Miami-born Hispanic woman elected to the Miami-Dade County Commission. As a community leader, she is most known for her strong advocacy for neurodivergent children and adults, education, environment, infrastructure, water and sewer, and small businesses. Regalado is a lawyer, former school board member, Spanish-language radio host, and proud mom to two neurodivergent young adults.

As our District 7  County Commissioner, representing East Kendall, the City of Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Pinecrest, and South Miami, Regalado is an effective advocate for residents, tackling challenges and delivering results.  She has championed efforts to address transportation and economic issues, preserve and improve our natural resources, and implement measures safeguarding coastal neighborhoods while enhancing the resilience of our District and County against severe weather and rising sea levels.

Regalado has been the chief proponent of building the critical infrastructure needed to make Miami-Dade County resilient and sustainable throughout its growth cycles. Her top priority is the massive undertaking of septic-to-sewer conversions needed to protect Biscayne Bay. She has also been a proponent of vocational training and financial literacy, green infrastructure, affordable housing, transit, and disability employment programs.

Through her dedication to educational excellence, Regalado championed a groundbreaking billion-dollar bond initiative aimed at revitalizing school facilities, and ensuring optimal learning environments for students. As Chair of the Miami-Dade County Public Public Schools Facilities and Construction Committee, Regalado oversaw the execution of repairs and enhancements at over 500 educational facilities, while prioritizing the critical aspect of school site security. Regalado led a comprehensive overhaul of the MDCPS transportation system, selling outdated buses, acquiring safer models, and integrating public transit options. This initiative enhanced service efficiency while redirecting taxpayer funds to prioritize educational initiatives. Regalado also secured private funding for Sensory Rooms at three Miami-Dade County elementary schools and led the creation of the Autism Intensive Communication Academy at the district’s most in-need school.

As a litigator, she focused on corporate litigation, real estate, asset valuation, and intellectual property. As a school board member, she championed programs and services for special needs children and adults, as well as the district’s technology and transportation needs, and became the face of a successful bond initiative to invest in updating and building public schools throughout Miami-Dade County.

Since 2008, Ms. Regalado has hosted several radio and television programs in Spanish. Currently, she contributes to on-air news analysis for Mega TV. She is also the director of St. Thomas University Institute for Ethical Leadership.
